Japan New Zealand Centre
-Mission Objectives
The Japan New Zealand Centre carries out activities pursuing
friendship, goodwill and mutual understanding between the countries
of Japan and New Zealand through a wide variety of community-based
exchange, including education, culture, travel, and sporting initiatives.
The Centre's Reference Room is an open base of resources and information
on New Zealand, freely accessible to all.
-A Powerful Driving Force
The JAPANI NEW
ZEALAND CENTRE is proud to have as Honorary Advisors to the Centre
the New Zealand Ambassador to Japan, His Excellency Mr Ian Kennedy; theANZ National Bank New Zealand Chairman, Sir Dryden Spring, Asia New Zealand Foundation*, Chairman, Hon Philip Burdon,
and New Zealand Studies Society Japan, Honorary Advisor,
George Ohshima. Also, each of our Board Members has a strong bond
with New Zealand through time spent studying or researching there.
-Cooperation with New Zealand
The Japan New Zealand Centre cooperates with the Asia New Zealand Foundation
in developing "people-to-people exchange" between the citizens of Japan and New Zealand. In cooperation
with the Asia New Zealand Foundation, the Centre offers
opportunities to build ties with relative New Zealand organisations
and their respective channels of exchange.
-A Unique Approach
The JAPAN NEW
ZEALAND CENTRE, in collaboration with relative New Zealand organisations,
proactively develops interesting and diverse citizen-based exchange
initiatives such as culture and young peoples' exchanges, international
cooperation with language education, and experienced-based travel
- a chance to explore the breathtaking outdoors.
In the Centre's first year it plans to (1) build up the Reference
Room's stock of resources; (2) develop ties with relative organisations;
(3) plan and carry out initiatives such as guest teacher programmes,
kids' camps, senior citizens' overseas study programmes and home
stays; (4) exchange events with tramping enthusiasts; (5) sports
exchange coordination; and others.
-Your Support
Crucial to the
success of the Japan New Zealand Centre is the valuable participation
of groups and individuals in its initiatives and programmes. In
order to develop activities and initiatives that fulfill the aspirations
of everyone involved, the Japan New Zealand Centre is seeking
those people and organisations that support its Mission Objectives
to become members. For those individuals who become members, there
is no membership fee for the first two years after the Centre's
establishment.
The JAPAN NEW
ZEALAND CENTRE wants to hear from all those people with an interest
in New Zealand. Everybody welcome.
Please feel free to visit our Reference Room any time. On display
are those textbooks as used in New Zealand schools today, as well
as general interest publications on subjects such as Gardening
and Rugby. Offered also is information from the Asia New Zealand Foundation, introductions to home-stay/long-stay opportunities,
beautiful tramping courses to enjoy along with the latest on the
New Zealand Symphony Orchestra - all of which will be continually
expanding.
We are also exploring exchange opportunities unique to our Centre's
aims. We await your visit!
